askporter and PropCall: closing the out-of-hours gap for housing and FM teams

askporter

A new partnership brings AI-powered triage and 24/7 human response together, so genuine emergencies never go unanswered.

Every housing provider and FM operator eventually runs into the same 11pm phone call: a burst pipe, a heating failure, a security incident, and no one on shift to answer it. The team that handled 200 calls that day is offline. The resident or occupant on the other end of the issue isn't.

The usual responses are all compromises. Keep someone on call around the clock, and you're paying for coverage that sits idle most nights. Route everything to voicemail, and a genuine emergency waits until Monday morning next to forty routine enquiries. Neither option holds up against Awaab's Law's 24-hour emergency response requirement, or against a client contract that measures you on response time, not office hours.

It's also, increasingly, a staffing problem in its own right. 68% of FM teams already find it challenging to hire skilled tradespeople, and out-of-hours cover competes for the same shrinking pool.

That's the gap askporter's new partnership with PropCall, the UK's out-of-hours property emergency response specialist, is built to close.

How it works

askporter's AI-powered triage categorises every incoming issue as it arrives, 24 hours a day, whether it's reported via WhatsApp, SMS, email, or web. Non-emergencies route through the client's normal workflow. Genuine emergencies outside working hours are escalated immediately to PropCall, whose trained agents take the call, manage the incident, and, within pre-agreed guidelines, can authorise emergency repairs up to £500 without waking a manager on a Sunday morning. Every interaction is logged and handed back to the client's askporter workflow, so the team picks up a complete record the next morning.

The reason this combination works, rather than just adding another vendor to the stack, is the order of operations. PropCall's agents only ever see pre-qualified emergencies, not the full volume of overnight calls, most of which were never urgent to begin with. Fewer, better-qualified calls mean faster response times and higher resolution rates than a generic answering service handling everything indiscriminately.

It's also a fair division of labour. AI is well suited to volume, categorisation, and routing, work that benefits from consistency and never needs a night's sleep. Judgement calls, authorisation, and a distressed resident's need to talk to an actual person are not. Putting each to the job it's better at is the point, not a workaround.

What is the askporter and PropCall partnership?

askporter and PropCall integrate to provide 24/7 emergency cover for housing providers and FM operators. askporter's AI-powered triage identifies genuine emergencies from incoming reports and escalates them to PropCall's human response team, who manage the incident, authorise repairs up to £500 where needed, and return a full activity log to the client's askporter workflow. No integration work or product development is required on the client's side. PropCall agents work directly inside the existing askporter environment.

Who it's for

Any organisation carrying out-of-hours risk without the headcount to staff it directly: registered housing providers, housing associations, ALMOs, and private residential managers on the Housing side; FM operators, internal estates teams, and property managers on the Operations side. It matters most for portfolios large enough that dedicated round-the-clock staffing would otherwise be its own significant cost line.
